Hi, my name is Laurie Walker and I am the Principal Broker and one of the owners of Windermere Douglas County. I am very proud to be associated with Windermere as they are a company that puts emphasis on community, community involvement, and has a high standard of ethics that each office is to adhere to. It was because of all of this that my partners and myself decided to buy the company from the previous owner - we felt very strongly that Windermere needed to remain a presence in Douglas County.

I started in the real estate buisiness as a real estate secretary somewhere around 1986 (my how time flys), I was the one that got to process the listings and offers, and basically keep the files up to date. While in this capacity, after 11 years or so, I decided that I liked that part of the business so much, and I like to deal with people, I would get my license and start helping people with their real estate needs. I have not been sorry I made that decission since! I have obtained my Graduate Real Estate Institiute (GRI) designation and my Acredited Buyers Representative (ABR) designation - both of which have provided me with the education to better assist my buyers and sellers. In 2004 I decided that I would like to get more education, so I studied for and obtained my Principal Broker license and since that time have also been managing our brokers as well as actively working real estate.

I am a proud member of the Douglas County Board of Realtors, the Oregon Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors. I have been active on the Douglas County Board of Realtors as a committee chair since I obtained my license, I was President of the board in 2005, and in 2006 was selected as Realtor Of The Year by my peers, something that I am extremely proud of! In 2006 & 2007 I was the chair of the Professional Standards committee, and also chair of the Community Involvement committee. I feel that it is important for us to get involved in our local board as well as our local community in some form - so I make time to do this and love doing it! I sit on the Home Foundation for the Oregon Association of Realtors currently. I am proud of our state association, as this committee’s sole purpose is to help with affordable housing throughout the state through grants given to agencies that promote the same feeling.

What’s that? Seriously, I am an animal lover and have been involved with New Beginnings SPCA for years and currently act as their vice-president. I spend many of my spare hours working with abandoned and abused animals. My home overflows with abandoned cats that can’t find homes, and I love each and every one of them, all are spoiled rotten! Several years ago I got involved with United Way as a committee member on their commitee that decides where their funding goes. This has been a real eye opener for me, we visit each group that has asked for funding, and then have to decide what portion of the funds available go to each. I never realized that all of these groups were out there nor did I realize the need they had - I wish we could give all of them the money they needed to do their work. For fun I like to golf (still a hacker), read, and travel the many beautiful sites of Oregon, and hopefully the rest of the states as time allows.
